Using Universal Design in Rapid Prototyping Instructional Design

Using universal design in rapid prototyping instructional design involves considering the potential needs of all learners when designing and delivering instruction by identifying and eliminating unnecessary barriers to teaching and learning while maintaining academic rigor. The design is a systematic process that is employed to develop education and training programs in a consistent and reliable fashion. Instructional design is a core component of the field and a foundational skill that all educational technology experts should have in their repertoire. Being informed with models and theories, instructional designers apply their skills and knowledge to bring about predictable results. Using universal design in rapid prototyping is intended to reduce the time and cost of a traditional ISD approach, while increasing its flexibility for all users. Using rapid prototyping, as an instructional design process, strives to realize the structure of the design with a prototype, as early in the process as possible to reduce the time and expense of a full development cycle.
