Hazard Communication (HAZCOM) training ensures employees can recognize, understand, and safely work around hazardous chemicals. Under OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (1910.1200), it is required for any employee handling hazardous materials. Training must be provided upon initial assignment and whenever new hazards are introduced. The OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) protects those working around hazardous chemicals. The need for clear instruction about these compounds has never been greater — with hundreds of thousands of chemicals registered for commercial production and use around the world. The federal regulations in the HCS safeguard every worker’s right to know about chemical hazards in the workplace and help employers understand what precautions to take with potentially dangerous substances.
